Job Description

Our Internship Program is conducting a search for appropriate candidates to fill positions starting approximately mid-June and ending in mid-December.  The positions are within our Winemaking Department at our Modesto Facility.  Working at this winery will give the intern the opportunity to learn from numerous winemakers making a variety of table wines, sparkling wines and flavored wines and beverages in commercial production today.  The intern’s essential functions are as follows:
•       Participate in tastings and sensory evaluation.
•       Participate in production, evaluation and bottling of commercial wines and beverages 
•       Assist with Fining Trials and may conduct and/or manage certain trials and experiments.
•       Assist with laboratory scale blending and sample requests.
•       Assists with tank inspections.
•       Participates in harvest activities including, but not limited to, sample acquisition, production trials, and fermentation evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
•       High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
•       Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture, Plant Science, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biological Engineering or Chemical Engineering; or Bachelor’s Degree in Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture, Plant Science, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biological Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
•       Required to be 21 years of age or older.
•       Required to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
•       Applicant must be able to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 50 feet.
Preferred Qualifications
•       Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture, Plant Science, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biological Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
•       Strong interest and/or passion for food/wine. 
•       Experience computing mathematic formulas and basic computer skills.
•       Familiar with Chemistry and Microbiology.
•       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•       Excellent organizational skills and experience managing multiple assignments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
•       Inside/Outside conditions: During Crush, work estimated at 80% (but not limited to) outside, with weather of varying types.
•       Required to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
•       Applicant must be able to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 50 feet.
•       Our wineries are among the safest in our industry.  Non-conformance to safety rules will not be accepted.
