Company Description Any visit to Santa Rita Hills must include a stop at Foley Estates. The property was founded by Bill Foley in the late 1990’s and today is one of the most important in the appellation. The winery’s success can be attributed to strict winemaking protocols and two extraordinary estate vineyards.

To guarantee the best possible fruit from both sites, Foley’s viticulture and winemaking teams have developed a unique micro-farming program. This complex process involves the mapping of soils and topography down to the smallest increment using soil pits and aerial photography. A total of 500 acres are under wine, with an emphasis on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Job Description

 We have an excellent opportunity for students to get additional hands on experience in a lab and cellar setting of a facility that crushes up to 800 tons a year, specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

HARVEST LAB INTERN

Primary Duties:
•       Collection of tank and barrel samples to perform all grape maturity, juice, and wine analysis included but not limited to: brix, pH, TA, FSO2, and spectrophotometry/enzymatic analysis of GF and Malic
•       Daily setup and calibration of lab equipment, while maintaining cleanliness and quality of all lab instruments
•       Prepares and standardizes solutions needed for production
•       Responsible for the review and accuracy of all lab analysis
•       Work safely and maintain a clean workstation
•       Daily review of workload with winemaker and prioritization of analysis and other winemaking needs
•       Other duties in the cellar as assigned by winemaking staff
Qualifications:
•       Prior lab experience preferred but not required
•       Prior experience with Winemaker’s Database preferred but not required
•       Basic knowledge of winery and cellar operations
•       Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
•       Ability to communicate effectively and follow verbal instructions
•       Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
•       Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures
•       Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
•       Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
•       Ability to climb up and down stairs/ladders
•       Ability to work flexible hours, position may include late nights and early mornings. (Monday-Saturday availability is required)
•       Ability to stand/work for long periods of time
•       Possess positive attitude and be a team player

The time period for the position would roughly be from August through October.  The candidate would need to work 6 days a week (Mon-Sat), around 8-10 hrs per day.  This is a paid internship and compensation depends on experience and related course credits.  Students can contact me directly via email raura@foleyfamilywines.com.
