Recognized as a flagship Santa Barbara Country producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sta. Rita Hills, as well as for their estate-driven Bordeaux-variety program in the Santa Ynez Valley appellation, the Gainey family also farms organically grown vegetables, fruits and flowers, sold at local farmer’s markets and grocery stores. In addition to their farming operation, they run cattle and grow hay crops on a commercial basis for California ranches.
Job Description

We're looking for interns to join our winemaking team for the 2016 Harvest Season. As an intern, you'll be expected to be an integral part of the winemaking team and participate in all aspects of the winemaking process, from the vineyard all the way through to bottle. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:

-visiting and sampling vineyards situated in both Santa Ynez and Santa Rita Hills
-Crushpad work (fruit sorting, additions, press operation, cleaning and sanitizing equipment)
-General cellar work (pumpovers/punchdowns, additions, cleaning, barrel work, cleaning, barrel topping, cleaning, wine movement, cleaning, winert upkeep,etc)
-basic lab work (wet chemistry)
-work with winemaker on sensory evaluations and quality assessments
-Data entry and record keeping

Work is very challenging, with very long hours. The ideal candidate is able to handle physically challenging work and mentally stay focused for long hours at a time. Additionally, candidates should possess or be in the process of obtaining a degree in Enology/Viticulture and preferably have previous harvest experience. Candidates should be able to lift 50lbs easily and be fluent in English.

In return, we hope to provide an environment that is both fun and rewarding for our interns. While we have a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, interns will also get work with Bordeaux Varietals, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc.
