Job Description

SUMMARY:
The primary responsibilities of this position will be performing laboratory analysis. The lab technician will work with the rest of the lab team on routine lab analysis, fermentation checks, wine monitoring, sample prep as well as provide laboratory support for all production activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - The job description reflects management's assignments of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Testing incoming grapes for ripeness.
• Daily monitoring of fermentations.
• Perform other assignments related to the functioning of the lab and cellar
• Collects samples as required for analysis and/or tasting using appropriate sampling procedures.
• Responsible for the review and accuracy of all lab analysis and data entry
• Cleans and maintains quality of laboratory instruments
• Responsible for understanding all safety procedures including hazardous materials handling, storage and disposal

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Previous lab experience and/or harvest experience desired but not essential.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise directions under minimal supervision.
• Must be computer literate and know Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong ability to communicate, both written and verbally
• Able to work extended hours and weekends during crush

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•       Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and walk on uneven surfaces
•       Walk, kneel, bend, stand, smell, and lift up to 50 lbs.
•       Exposure to chemicals and machinery required to process wine.
•       Long hours during crush and peak periods, including all shifts.
•       Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor cellar in all types of weather.
•       The candidate will work near moving machinery parts and will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
The lab presents a unique environment that requires performing tasks of a repetitious nature, the ability to change job priorities and the need for speed, accuracy and precision to ensure the highest quality standards. Working conditions in certain areas of the winery are cold, wet, slippery and noisy. Job requires candidate to be able to work on their feet for long periods, including the ability to go up and down stairs and bending are required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

HOURS and FLEXABILITY:
Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30PM
Mandatory overtime during peak harvest season.
