The Associate I can be located in St. Helena (Napa County) or Santa Rosa (Sonoma County). 

Job Description

The Associate job is generally a developmental position for career development as a banker with full relationship management responsibilities. Associates assist lending teams in the analysis and underwriting of credits by spreading and analyzing financial statements for trends. They prepare routine underwriting documents for credit, facilitate the booking process, and assure credit files comply with SVB policies and procedures. Associates will work with Vice Presidents as well as contacting clients directly to resolve compliance related questions and inquiries. Associates handle a variety of routine credit documentation requirements in addition to reviewing noncompliance and past due status for assigned accounts. They will also review financial information, collateral and other assets to assess portfolio risk and profitability. Associates receive dedicated and structured on the job training from senior bankers, covering underwriting, portfolio management, wine industry trends, & sales strategy. 

Associate I 
JOB LEVEL: Assists in the credit underwriting process and portfolio management for clients. Conducts due diligence on potential clients via spreading and analyzing financial statements. Assists in loan documentation and booking processes. Works with variety of products and divisions within Bank. Assists relationship leads with client inquiries and contributes to team loan growth and profitability.
JOB COMPLEXITY: Able to handle a variety of routine credit underwriting and documentation requirements. Reviews client noncompliance, past due status, and processes loan advances for assigned accounts. Contacts client to resolve routine compliance related questions.
SUPERVISION: Works under direction of the Team Leader, Vice President(s) and Senior Associate(s). 
EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years experience. Basic credit analysis and accounting skills.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Course work in accounting & finance preferred.

Primary Responsibilities: 
1. Accurately spread financial statements, borrowing bases and perform other financial analyses in a timely fashion.
2. Gather appropriate data from clients relative to all credit actions and operational issues in a timely fashion.
3. Master functionality of underwriting tools, including:
•MS Excel (general use and specific Wine Team spreadsheets)
•MS Word
•SVB Online
•Business Objects
4. Maintain credit files and monitor client compliance, bringing all out-of-compliance issues to attention of VP/Team Leader.
5. Adequately prepare basic CAR’s, Variances, CMPAS’s and renewals with minimal supervision.
6. Develop working knowledge of SVB products (merchant cards, corporate credit cards, foreign exchange, SVBeConnect, investment products, etc).
7. Facilitate loan booking process once approval is finalized and documents have been executed.
8. Begin developing knowledge of wine industry.

Skills and Requirements 

EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years experience. Basic credit analysis and accounting skills.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Course work in accounting & finance preferred.
SOFTWARE: Moody’s, MS Excel, MS Word, MS CRM
