Company Description Zaca Mesa Winery & Vineyards is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our 2017 harvest team. Successful applicants will be working with fruit from our estate vineyard located in the Santa Ynez Valley. We are Rhone varietal focused with over 40 years of history in Santa Barbara County.

Job Description

Ideal candidates will possess a great work ethic, have the ability to follow directions, and work independently on assigned tasks. This is a seasonal, full time harvest position which will start in late July and end in November.

Responsibilities include, (but not limited to):

¥       Conduct laboratory operations and ensure obeisance with all federal and state regulations
¥       Perform lab analysis including: FS02, pH, TA, VA, Alcohol
¥       Perform R.S. and Malic Acid analysis via spectrophotometer
¥       Maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments
¥       Perform bench trials with fining agents
¥       Process vineyard samples and run juice analysis
¥       Perform daily brix and temperature readings on  fermentations
¥       Perform additions to juice, must, and wine
¥       Perform punch-downs & pump-overs

¥       High School Diploma and/ or equivalent
¥       Currently enrolled in a College/University with a minimum of two (2) years of work towards BS Degree preferred
¥       Previous lab experience and/ or harvest experience helpful
¥       Basic chemistry and analytical analysis experience
¥       Strong mathematics and statistical skills, and strong attention to detail
¥       Ability to follow directions under minimal supervision
¥       Ability to prioritize tasks and duties efficiently in a fluid workplace
¥       Must be computer literate with MS Office (Word and Excel)
¥       Strong ability to communicate both written and verbal; must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions
¥       Ability to work overtime and weekends
¥       Timeliness is essential
¥       Reliable transportation and possesses a valid CA driver's license

Physical Demands:
¥       Ability to work in an indoor and outdoor environment including walking to the lab and cellar
¥       Ability to climb ladders
¥       Ability to remain on their feet six hours at a time
¥       Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

While  performing  the duties of  this job,  the  intern/ employee  is regularly required to stand, move or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to use hand to finger, handle  or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, sit, talk or hear and taste and smell. The employee occasionally may be required to stoop, kneel, couch or crawl. Visual acuity, peripheral  vision,  distance  vision, color  vision and  depth  perception are needed. The employee must be able to communicate by speech and hearing continuously.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a winery lab and cellar environment of  potential  moving mechanical  parts.  They may also be occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne  particles, outdoor conditions  and  potential precarious spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however  winery equipment  noise can be at  a much higher   level.
