In 1981, we planted our first vineyard with a mission to make world-class Bordeaux-style blends, but since then we've expanded our knowledge of viticulture in the unique region of Paso Robles. At JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, we combine traditional Old-World methods like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in French oak with New World technology.

This is a great opportunity to join our lab team at JUSTIN.  This is a permanent full time position.  In this role you will support the Lab Tech II and interface with Winemaking and the Production department to support lab, bottling, and wine tracking functions. Under minimum supervision, performs routine chemical analysis while observing the department's safety practices, procedures and quality guidelines.

A Day In The Life at JUSTIN:

-Under the direction of the Lab Tech II, as well as Winemaking, perform routine analysis, but not limited to: TA, ph., VA, FS02, TS02, Alcohol.
-Operates laboratory instruments such as Y-15, cash still, refractometer, density meter, balances, turbidimeter, alcolyzer and other instruments as required to perform duties.
-Analyzes and processes laboratory samples in a timely manner.
Enters test results into the laboratory information management system in a timely manner.
-Selects and prepares chemical solutions used in the laboratory.
-Supports the training of seasonal interns.
-Obtain samples as needed from tanks, barrels, bottling and tanker trucks.
-Must immediately inform Winemaker or Laboratory Supervisor of any situation that could jeopardize wine quality.
-Able to perform any troubleshooting required for all laboratory instruments.
-Responsible for understanding all safety procedures including hazardous materials handling, storage and disposal.
-Assist with the updating of Lab SOP's, inventories of materials, as well as reporting of use to JDE Specialist
-Responsible for wine production and chemical analysis.
-Must adhere to all safety procedures and act as a role model to others.
-Must adhere to all company policy and procedures.
-Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Lab Tech II including, but not limited to, sampling, cleaning record clerk duties, and special projects.
-Any other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Your Contribution to JUSTIN:
-Bachelor's Degree in related field and two (2) years previous winery experience.
-Ability to establish direction, obtain commitment and execute appropriate production processes.
-Demonstrate strong ability to work under pressure.
-COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
