Situated in the Santa Ynez Valley, Gainey Vineyard is a family-owned estate winery that has been operating for nearly three decades. We are a 20,000 case winery with estate vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley and Sta. Rita Hills AVAs. We produce Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling from the Santa Ynez Valley and Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills.

We're looking for 3 cellar interns and 1 lab intern to join our winemaking team for the 2018 Harvest Season. As an intern, you'll be expected to be an integral part of the winemaking team and participate in all aspects of the winemaking process, from the vineyard all the way through to bottle. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
-Crushpad work (fruit sorting, additions, press operation, cleaning and sanitizing equipment)
-General cellar work (pumpovers/punchdowns, additions, cleaning, barrel work, cleaning, barrel topping, cleaning, wine movement, cleaning, winery upkeep,etc)
-work with winemaker on sensory evaluations and quality assessments
-Data entry and record keeping
Lab intern duties include but are not limited to:
-wet chemistry assays
-daily brix and temperature readings of ferments
-enzymatic assays with spectrophotometer
Work is very challenging, with very long hours. The ideal candidate is able to handle physically challenging work and mentally stay focused for long hours at a time. Candidates should be able to lift 50lbs easily and be fluent in English.
Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation, although we will help as much as possible
