Job Description

We are currently seeking a passionate and curious individual to join our winemaking team as a full-time cellar assistant. The optimal candidate would be self-motivated, work independently with minimal instruction, able to work long hours as necessary, and enjoy being a part of the hands-on process of winemaking. This is a full-time, year-round position with extended time commitments during harvest (approximately August through November). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the winemakers, the cellar assistant will assist in all phases of wine production, including but not limited to: Facilities: cleaning, sanitizing and maintenance Barrels: racking, topping, and stacking Lab Analysis: monitor brix, temperatures, SO2 levels; data entry relating to such Sanitization: tanks, hoses, pumps, and other equipment Machinery Operation: forklift, pumps, tanks, barrel washers Work Orders: document and execute in accordance with in-house protocols Adhere to all sanitation and safety rules and regulations Perform other winery-related duties as assigned by supervisor During harvest, the person in this position would also assist with: Grape and Wine Handling: receiving and sorting grapes, punch downs, pump overs Interns: Monitor and assist in training TIME REQUIREMENTS The Cellar Assistant will work 5 days/week from January to July, up to 6-7 days per week during harvest. All candidates must be able to work long hours, nights and weekends as requested by the winery while maintaining a positive attitude and staying on task. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must have the ability to read, write, speak and understand instructions in English Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision and within a team, in a fast-paced environment with emphasis on quality, accuracy and timeliness Familiarity with and operation of basic hand tools Ability to prioritize tasks while in a perpetually fluid environment Demonstrate reliability and punctuality Maintain a professional manner at all times and perform duties in a manner consistent with the company’s values Detail-oriented High school graduate or equivalent PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1-2 years of winery and/or harvest experience Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Forklift certification (training and certification reimbursement will be provided for the right candidate) Bottling production experience Bilingual (English/Spanish) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels, wet and/or humid conditions, inclement seasonal weather (summer heat, cold weather, rain, etc) Ability to bend, stoop, and twist in the performance of various tasks in a fast-paced warehouse/production environment Ability to repeatedly lift and carry weights up to 60 pounds at varying frequencies with equipment Endure extended periods of time walking, standing and climbing ladders This description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for their job.
