Job Description:
2022 will mark the launch of the Oak Ridge Winery Intern Program. We are interested in hiring individuals to assist winemaking and cellar activities during the harvest season. These candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of grape harvest and early winemaking processes.
Job Description
• Under the direction of Chief Winemaker, contribute to all aspects of the crush
• Participate in daily fermenter tastings
• Assist in work order preparations and treatment recommendations
• Monitor yeast cultures as applicable
• Assist in appropriate lab data collection and distribution
• Supervise and assist in cellar activities, particularly the premium small-lot program
Ideal candidates will:
• Have a general understanding of grape processing and fermentation
• Have some undergraduate education in Viticulture, Enology, Fermentation Science (or something similar) and/or previous winery/cellar experience
• Be dependable and flexible to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary
• Be able to provide your own housing and transportation
• Have a good sense of taste and smell
• Be super excited about wine!
Other Information:
This job involves:
• Irregular hours
• Occasional exposure to elements (wind, rain, sun, etc.)
• Occasionally required to lift wine cases (~35lbs+)
• Frequently working at heights (top of tanks)
• Occasionally working in confined spaces
• Walking/standing for extended periods of time
• Potential exposure to caustics, chemicals, fumes, and odors
