This position will facilitate the management of the Estate Vineyards at the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College. The Lead Vineyard Technician works in conjunction with and reports to the Viticulture & Enology Director. This position supports the Viticulture and Enology academic program by leading the vineyard staff and practicum students. The college administration, faculty, and facilities provide support to this position in achieving the goals of the teaching vineyard. The Lead Vineyard Technician works closely with the Director to ensure the vineyard is compliant with safety and that jobs are completed in high quality, timely matter to produce premium wine grapes. The Lead Vineyard Technician serves as the instructor for the Viticulture Practicum course (VEN195V.)

Assisting Director with scheduling and prioritizing weekly tasks in the vineyard
Assisting vineyard crew/students in specific tasks, making sure tasks/jobs are carried out correctly to the standards set by the Director
Pruning, suckering, positioning, tucking, tying, hedging, tipping, leafing, fruit thinning, harvesting, etc.
Maintaining and installing trellis, irrigation, and plantings
Assistance with vineyard amendments
Planting and training new and young vines
Under vine management, including shoveling
Maintenance of broken end posts, trellis systems
Ensuring that the crew is always provided with the necessary equipment and working in accordance with safety procedures
Ability to teach/train vineyard workers more efficient protocols
Following and enforcing organizational policies and safety procedures
Maintains vineyards and workplace at a high standard (picking up trash, debris, etc.)
Immediately reports to Director and/or Campus Safety of any work-related accidents in the vineyard, broken equipment, or vineyard parts
Alert and aware during high-stress weather conditions (rain, heat, frost protection, etc.)
Meet and teach the assigned class(es) in accordance with course outlines
Develop a course syllabus based on the approved college outline.
Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and academic reports.
Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as the full-time faculty as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.
Other related duties as assigned
Preference will be given to qualified internal candidates.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for Occupational Disciplines.
• Degree in discipline (Associate’s degree or higher) AND 5 years or 5,000 hours of documented experience recent with the discipline; AND/OR
• Professional Licensure/Specialized certificate(s) AND/OR 5 years or 5,000 hours of documented and recent work experience.

- Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance and landscaping methods
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools (tractor, UTV, etc.)
- Valid Arizona driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
- Familiarity with grounds keeping related chemicals and hazards
- Physical ability as described in Essential Functions
- Basic computer skills: use of Word, Excel, email, etc.
- Ability to adapt to a changing workplace and workload
- Work independently under limited supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and be willing to work as part of a team
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to follow through with tasks in a timely manner
- Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties

Preferred Skills & Abilities
- EPA Pesticide Applicator’s card
- Work experience in a community college/higher education environment
