Title:
2022 Harvest Internship
Type:
Seasonal F/T
Employer:
Matthiasson Family Vineyards
Employment Location:
Napa, CA
Company Description:
Winemaking, for us, is a natural extension of farming. Steve and Jill Matthiasson have both worked for many years in the sustainable agriculture and local food movement, and in 2003, started Matthiasson Wines based on those values. Our wines are classical expressions of different grape varieties, some well-known like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and some rare like Ribolla Gialla and Refosco. The wines are refreshing, complement food, and are moderate in alcohol.
Pay Range:
DOE
Anticipated Start Date:
August 2022
Anticipated End Date:
November 2022
Job Description:
Matthiasson Family Vineyards is looking for one more passionate wine nerd to round out our intern group for the 2022 harvest! Led by 6-time James Beard Award nominee and SF Chronicle and Food & Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year, Steve Matthiasson, we produce wines that we like to drink, food-friendly and full of energy and character.
As we are a small team, interns will be involved in all facets of the winemaking process, including:
• Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment
• Receiving and processing fruit
• Pumpovers and punch downs
• Monitoring fermentations, brix and temperature checks
• Daily tastings with the winemaking team
• Lab work including brix/pH/TA, juice panels and end of fermentation/MLF enzymatics on Spica
• Draining, digging out, and press operation
• Barrel cleaning/prep and filling
• Racking and topping
• Working with Innovint winery software
An ideal candidate will have an interest in organic and regenerative agriculture and be an observant self-starter who takes ownership of their tasks with a strong attention to detail. We ask that you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an ability to remain flexible in a constantly changing harvest environment.
