Job Description:
Joel Gott Wines is looking for one qualified individual to assist our Central Coast winemaking team for the 2023 harvest beginning in early August. This role will include mostly oversight in all aspects of wine and grape analysis rather than a hands-on cellar position. However, it requires the knowledge of cellar and winemaking practices to effectively communicate harvest operations to our team. In addition to helping at our Paso Robles location this role will also assist at our facility in King City as needed. We are looking for someone with great organization and time management skills who can thrive in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee initial grape receival, crushing, additions, and various aspects of wine production
• Monitor fermentations, collect tank samples, check Brix and temperatures
• Prepare fermentation samples for tasting
• Act as communication liaison between custom crush supervisors and Joel Gott winemaking team
• Verify work orders and winemaking protocols are followed correctly
• Assist in vineyard sampling as needed
• Set up laboratory trials and tastings
• Enter analysis results in winemaking database and Excel spreadsheets
• Distribute samples and products between facilities as needed
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
REQUIREMENTS:
• B.S. in Viticulture & Enology or similar Science field preferred (or in the process of obtaining a degree)
• Previous lab/harvest experience, familiarity and experience with winemaking practices
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Skilled in time management and handling daily deadline pressures
• Good observation and analytical skills, proficient in MS Excel
• Positive interpersonal skills, proven ability to work well in a team environment
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Extensive driving, valid CA driver’s license and clean DMV report
