Ancient Peaks Winery
Tasting Room & Cafe - Santa Margarita
Make Ancient Peaks your first or last stop of the day when visiting the Paso Robles wine region. The Ancient Peaks Tasting Room is located within the quaint town of Santa Margarita, just 10 miles north of San Luis Obispo off Hwy 101 and 22 miles south of Paso Robles, featuring a variety of estate wines as well as a wonderful café.
Ancient Peaks Winery and Margarita Vineyard are owned by three longtime local winegrowing and ranching families – the Filipponis, Rossis and Wittstroms. Two generations are actively involved in the daily operations of the vineyard and winery. Ancient Peaks wines are crafted under the guidance of Mike Sinor, a local winemaking veteran and one of the highest-rated winemakers on the Central Coast.
Tucked beneath the peaks of the Santa Lucia Mountains just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean the vines unfold along a rare array of soils amid one of the regions coolest growing regions. As the southern-most sub appellation of the Paso Robles AVA the wines of Ancient Peaks are unique to the area displaying true varietal characteristics.
Grapes were first planted at Santa Margarita Ranch by Franciscan missionaries in 1780. Presently the Ancient Peaks, Margarita Vineyard lies within a 14,000 acre ranch which is one of California’s oldest continuously operated cattle ranches with 850 acres of SIP certified vines stretched over six miles.
The Ancient Peaks tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 22720 El Camino Real in Santa Margarita. Tours of nearby Margarita Vineyard are offered every Saturday at 11:30am, reservations are required. We also offer a unique Zip & Sip package, where guests can zip line over the vines and then return to the Tasting Room for lunch and a glass of wine.
