Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Harvest Enologist Intern to join the Markham Vineyards Winemaking team for Harvest 2024. We are seeking out an experienced and talented individual who is engaged in wine analysis and has the passion for creating high end wines. This role is based in St Helena, California, and Markham Vineyards is a member of the Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners’ portfolio. This role will work alongside the Markham Winemaking and Cellar teams to assist in all stages of wine production. This is a seasonal (temporary), full-time non-exempt position participating in harvest from August 1st through October 31st, that reports to the Winemaker of the Textbook brand.
Qualifications:
- BS in a Viticulture, Enology, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field, or actively pursuing
- Previous harvest experience preferred but not required
- Time management, teamwork, multitasking, and communication skills
- Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
- Ability to work long hours and flexible days
- Must be able to provide proof of U.S. work authorization or obtain verified work visa by the date of hire.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Follow all SOP’s and Safety Procedures
- Ensures proper safety in the lab and cellar are followed
Lab:
- Collecting tank and barrel samples
- Fermentation Monitoring (brix, temp, RS & ML tracking)
- Processing and analysis on vineyard samples
- Data entry into Vintrace
- Assist in set up of tastings and trials
- Support laboratory & winemaking staff as needed
Crush Pad:
- Certified Weigh Master
- Monitor quality of incoming fruit, including Brix/Temp and tasting
Cellar:
- Assist cellar staff as needed
- Sanitation
- Pumpovers
- Tank Top monitoring
- Tank Additions
