Niner Wine Estates, a sustainable estate winery located in Paso Robles, has a rare FT Cellar position available starting this summer.

Niner Wine Estates produces 100% estate grown Burgundy, Bordeaux and Rhone varietals from two vineyards in San Luis Obispo County – one in Paso Robles and the other in Edna Valley. This is an opportunity to work with two hands-on winemakers with a range of techniques and varietals in a LEED and SIP-certified, gravity-flow winery.

The Cellar Tech I position involves a comprehensive, basic understanding of winery operations and requires carrying out a wide array of tasks associated with harvest, cellar and bottling functions in an efficient and quality-oriented manner. This person is expected to work in a team environment with other cellar staff, the Enologist, Assistant Winemaker and Winemakers.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• Prior winery work experience a plus
• A good attitude, versatility and a willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Experience using Vintrace and/or a tablet a plus
• Experience functioning in a team environment

JOB DUTIES
• Sampling from barrels, tanks and fermentation vessels
• Supports the operation of winery equipment in bottling and cellar (pumps, presses, etc)
• Receiving, sorting, crushing and/or pressing of grapes
• Performs tank and barrel cleaning, pump, hose and equipment sanitation, including confined space entry
• Ensures all additions to juice or wine are made accurately, per the work order
• Completes juice racking/wine transfers to barrel, tank, bottling line or tanker
• Performs barrel filling, topping, SO2 or other additions, stirring
• Basic lab work including Brix using a hydrometer or density meter and temperature using a thermometer
• Performs various bottling line duties
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulations
• Be leader for less-experienced staff
• Comprehensive knowledge of all Niner SOPs
• Ability to work unsupervised for periods of time
• Operate a forklift in a safe manner

This job requires availability for overtime and weekend work during harvest (approx. 6 days/week, 60 hours/week). From January through July, hours may convert to 4x 10-hour days.

REQUIREMENTS
• Valid state-issued driver’s license
• 18 years or older
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to be lift truck certified
• Ability to work at heights and in confined areas
• Ability to physically capable of executing any job tasks within the cellar or bottling line, including lifting weights of up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, and standing for substantial lengths of time
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments
• Ability to work weekends and overtime as necessary throughout the year
• Ability to wear a respirator, when necessary
• Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality
